Hello everyone, welcome back, or should I say welcome to our new home!

It's been a nice little off season, with 'AtomicF1' getting an upgrade and going all Atomic Sim Racing Australia and stuff. I'm sure many of you have enjoyed the break, and may have even got around to playing other games, or even, god forbid, spending time with your loved ones...

F1 2013 has now been released, so it's time to dust of the helmets and get your racing suits waist adjusted, as we fire up again for another epic season of real fake Formula 1 racing!

Race Conditions
As per previous seasons, our race condiions will be the same, as listed below:

PC

*need to check if these times below will be correct for ADST*
Brisbane/all eastern cities – 7:30pm
Adelaide/central cities – 8:00pm
Central Cities – 7:00pm
Western Australia – 5:30pm

- Please convert into your specific time zone if you’re not in Australia.

- There will be a 30 minute leeway to allow latecomers some chance to enter before we start the session. Sometimes we allow for our Western Australian friends some times to get home from work, which means the race start time is pushed back to 9pm, please check within thread for updates n these situations.

- If you are running late - please all available methods to ensure that the 'FIA' or another driver can vouch for you so the we know you are on your way.

Calendar
After conducting a poll, a resounding number have voted for the full number of rounds to be raced this season, as such a provisional calendar has been drawn up, including breaks over the Christmas and New Year period, as well as all long weekends, which apparently is only the Australia Day Long weekend.
The provisional calendar is as follows:

Australia - 13 Oct - Round #1
Malaysia - 20 Oct
China - 27 Oct
Bahrain - 3 Nov
Spain - 10 Nov
Monaco - 17 Nov
Canada - 24 Nov
Silverstone - 1 Dec
Nurburgring - 8 Dec
Hungary - 15 Dec
Spa - 22 Dec
CHRISTMAS + NEW YEARS BREAK
Monza - 5 Jan
Singapore - 12 Jan
Korea - 19 Jan
AUST DAY LONG WEEKEND
Japan - 2 Feb
India - 9 Feb
Abu Dhabi - 16 Feb
US - 23 Feb
Brazil - 2 Mar

Both Atomic F1 and GP2 will follow this calendar in unison *as much as possible* for the forthcoming season, in the hopes that all racers can participate in Friday Night Practice on the same circuits.

**But, we won't necessarily need to be tied to the F1 calendar anymore, as the new website allows a different schedule for each league to be easily setup, so if the need arises, this should help us to be more flexible to the racers in our championship.

Rules, Regulations & the 'FIA'
Yes yes, I know, but these need to be here, and people do need to be familiar with this inofmation, so listen up!

Key Points:
We are here for fun, it is a game, plain and simple.
The race is not won in the first corner.

We follow the full rules employed by the FIA for real life Formula 1, and allow the game to use it's in game penalty system to apply penalties to drivers.

But we also follow the rules of Common Sense and Respect.
There is no room in our League for Abusive behaviour, nor will we tolerate 'trolling' or deliberate wrecking of another persons race.

Failure to observe the rules will result in the FIA (Ploddy, millen, rogue eclipse) issuing a race ban or in a worst case scenarion, asking the driver in question to leave the competition.

The full list of regulations that we have devised is as follows, it may seem like a lot of rules, but they are all very simple to understand:

GP2 will be using the following rules for the drivers participating in the GP2 championship.
Please read these rules carefully as they are considered FIA rules as well.

1. Driver entry
1.1 Returning drivers that have either raced every race or notified of absences on every occasion have first preference of a seat for the next season. Teams are chosen on a first posted, first served basis but a returning driver has first preference at their team from the previous season.
1.2 New drivers can express interest to play by posting in the forum and will be incorporated on a first come, first served basis.
1.3 There will 8 teams, 2 drivers per team, rather than having single-seat teams. FIA reserves the right to join single-seat teams before the competition starts.
1.4 Once a driver is allocated to a team before the season commences they are given “race” status and the right to race each week, provided they meet their notification obligation (see below).
1.5 New drivers can lodge their intention to play with the FIA and will be placed on the reserve list, given “reserve” status. They will be promoted to “race” status as openings become available on a first come, first served basis.
1.6 New drivers cannot race in both GP1 and GP2 leagues. A GP1 driver retiring from the GP1 league is free to join GP2.

2. Driver notification
2.1 Drivers with “race” status are understood to be competing for the entire season. Obviously, people have commitments outside that interfere with the racing calendar and there is no expectation that a driver will attend every race, but contact must be made to advise the FIA if a driver cannot attend a race.
2.2 The default position is that a driver will turn up to the race. There is no need to notify FIA on a week to week basis if you are turning up to race.
2.3 If a driver cannot make a race, they should notify the FIA via a forum post that they will not be there. In instances where drivers have not been able to do this prospectively, they should endeavour to post as soon as practical after the race as to why they missed and when they will return.
2.4 If you are away for a block of time, you can notify once to cover that period of time, but you must include a return date.

3. Failure to notify
3.1 If you are absent from 4 consecutive races without notifying the FIA, the FIA reserves the right to place you on ‘reserve’ status. This would typically only occur where there is a reserve driver waiting to race but the decision to do so is at the discretion of the FIA. The FIA will not attempt to contact the driver first, it is the sole responsibility of the driver to notify the FIA about their absence.
3.2 Drivers moved to “reserve” status from “race” status will be placed at the end of the reserve list and be permitted to rejoin the competition when a seat becomes available, as per the normal reserve process.

4. Reserve status drivers
4.1 Reserve drivers are welcome to attend Friday Night Practice but are not able to race until your status change to ‘race’. This is to protect the integrity of the competition in terms of points being competed for, but also that new drivers, simply by racing, affect the outcome of other drivers regardless of their finishing position.
4.2 If a ‘race’ slot becomes available, the ‘reserve’ status driver will be allocated ‘race’ status and given a seat in a team that has another driver, to make up a 2 driver team. If this is not possible, the new driver can have their choice of vacant team.

5. Retiring drivers
5.1 At any point during the season, a driver can retire from the competition, simply by posting in the forums.
5.2 When a driver retires, their seat becomes available to be filled, either by a current ‘race’ status driver wishing to switch teams, or a ‘reserve’ status driver, in that order.
5.3 If the position is filled by a “race’ status driver, their own seat becomes vacated for another driver. This can continue until seats are available for ‘reserve’ drivers.
5.5 If the position is filled by a ‘reserve’ status driver, they are obligated to fill the seat of the retiring driver.

6. Championship points
6.1 Driver’s Championship Points are only earned by one driver.
6.2 Constructor’s Championship points continue regardless of the driver on the team.

The Bubble!
With recent Codemaster's games, their netcode has been, lacking, in certain areas.
From our experiences over the last few season, this can cause somewhat of a 'BUBBLE' effect, whereas there is an invisible 'bubble' around yours and other cars. We understand this is mainly caused by bandwidth issues, and the way the P2P online lobbys work.
This can cause you to hit another car even when on your screen it looks as though there was plenty of room.
We ask drivers to please be mindful of this, and if you notice a bubble effect, please allow extra room, and also inform the other drivers of the problem so that we may all manage the situation.

As an end note, HAVE FUN. That's what we are all here for, good hard & fun racing, and if everyone follows the rules and gets along, it goes a long way to us all having a great time.

In Game Communication
Ventrillo is our program of choice for communicating, we have a room kindly hosted for us with these details:

Vent Hostname or IP: tritium.typefrag.com
Port number: 35406

Please PM either rogue eclipse, Ploddy or millen for the password for the vent server.

We also recommend using these setting to normalise everybody's speech volume in Vent

In Game Video Recording
Most of the guys on the grid record their races each week.
This is mainly for the fun of watching highlights from other peoples races, but on a secondary and less awesome note, can also be used as a means of analysis and penalty.
We all use a variety of different methods, FRAPS, DxTory, Afterburner... If you would like to record your races and need some help with setup, please post in the forums or chat to us on Vent and we will help to sort you out.

We ask that if possible, each driver does record their race.

Here are some guide on how to record your races-

With DXtory
With Afterburner

Teams & Drivers for Season #4
Existing Atomic GP2 Racers will have priority choice of the team they would like to race for.
New drivers to the series will be able to choose from the remaining seats after existing members have been locked in.
Car performance is set to equal.
Full teams (2 Drivers) are preferred for Championship purposes, discussed below...

Season #3 drivers:

Infiniti Red Bull Racing
: E.T
: JaseGP

Scuderia Ferrari
: SOJ
: Toggsie

Vodafone McLaren
: Kikz
: NightKid

Lotus
: Ploddy
: millen

Mercedes
:
:

Sauber
: Doull Teg
: Effing Sea

Force India
:
:

Williams
: rogue eclipse
: PessimistPrime

Scuderia Ronnochio Rosso
: Fredzfrog
: Nobody813

Catherham
: Petevo
:

Marussia
:
:

Reserve Drivers
: Parsifal
: Predz

Championships
The series includes 2 championships, both an individual Driver Championship, and a team Constructor's Championship.
Because of this, it is preferable to have full teams (2 Drivers) rather than driver by themselves in a team, so if you are late in deciding upon a team, you may be asked to move to another team to fill in the gaps.
Championship Point are awarded as per the games system, which just happens to be the same as the official Formula 1 scoring system.

1st = 25
2nd = 18
3rd = 15
4th = 12
5th = 10
6th = 8
7th = 6
8th = 4
9th = 2
10th = 1

DNF and DSQ will not have any points awarded.

Friday Night Practice
On a Friday night, everyone from Atomic Sim Racing likes to get together and have a few nice laid back practice sessions for the upcoming round.
So grab a couple of brown lemonades or your favourite flavour of cordial and jump in for some fun racing in a relaxed setting.

I will update this post as we go to include all the information needed, but for now it's all about planning.
Let me know if we need to include anything else in this thread...
This page here will also be updated with all the info relating to the GP2 series.

Hey awesome Website.. Nice work..

One drink and I'll drive for anyone :P I am happy to fill a second driver spot if it looks like that team will only have one driver.. First preference would be a drive for the Ferrari team.. However, I will fill a team, if anyone wants me

Contract wise, I have slipped Bernie Eccleston 40 billion tax dodging bitcoins to get a drive this year. Bernie said I had to do it or I wouldn't get a drive :P

P.S. I may have talked a mate to join us for the comp. Will get him to register when I speak to him next.

Cheers

So that means I won't be on the list of potential co-drivers :-P

Williams ASR GP2 Team Press Release

Williams ASR GP2 Team is pleased to announce that it has re-signed rogue eclipse for season 4. This will be the GP2 veteran's third season with the team, and we look forward to building on the success of our first two seasons together.

An announcement regarding rogue's team mate will be made in the coming days.

----------------------

AJonGP2 Update

After a well deserved break following its phenomenal third season, ASR GP2 silly season is officially underway with the first driver signings for season 4 announced today. RBR were first off the mark, re-signing speedster ET for his second season with the team. Team owner Deitrich Mateschitz has made it clear that he expects results - "We must achieve the Constructor's Championship, or heads will roll". ET was considered a safe bet for team principal Christian Horner after a solid first campaign that saw him finish fourth in the WDC - "Well, he was very consistent for us last season and we think that we will have a very competitive package for season 4." There is no word yet on who will partner ET at Milton Keynes.

Williams have re-signed rogue eclipse for a third season after a disappointing end to his season 3 campaign. A neck injury sidelined rogue for the final six races of the season, prematurely ending the team's battle with Sauber and RBR in the WCC despite the valiant efforts of his team mate zdievo. Williams will be looking to bounce back in season 4 and deputy team principal Claire Williams thinks they can do just that - "We're pleased to have a fully fit rogue back in the car and we're putting all the pieces in place to enable the team to challenge in both championships this season". She remained tight lipped about rogue's team mate, despite earlier news that zdievo will be unavailable for much of the early season - "We are currently in talks with a number of drivers and will make an announcement when there is something to announce".

The paddock waits with bated breath to see where 2x champion SOJ and season 3's break out driver Ploddy will sign, with teams and pundits alike looking forward to the renewed rivalry. With only Sauber's Sora announcing his retirement at the end of last season (let's face it, nobody takes Nobody's customary retirement statements seriously) most of the field is expected to return, along with some new (and perhaps not so new) faces to complete the grid.

Meanwhile, the ASR GP2 calendar is currently under consideration by the FIA, with an announcement expected over the coming weeks. Questions being considered include the length of the season, and the potential for built in breaks in the schedule.

-AJ

---------------------------------------

Woohoo! Looking forward to season 4! So is the idea that we only use this forum for ASR stuff now?

I'll definitely make a return and have already been in contract negotiations however nothing is yet final.

Any ideas for the start date?

I think you guys get the game released a week before I do. I can't remember how much time we had after the release of 2012 before season 2. Maybe a couple of weeks?

YEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSS silly season! Is it wrong that I'm slightly aroused?

Freddie Jordon's real...ish headlines:

With the latest GP2 press relase, It sounds as though E.T is intent on taking the reins at Red Bull/Frog this season. With the already rumoured tension this statement has only added to the current unrest at Red Bull/Frog racing. Will we see the ever popular Fredzy at Red frog racing this season? Recent reports from http://www.hearditonthegrapevine.com (all rights to Nobody) indicate that he's been suggesting E.T has been getting better equipment and has also been getting more attention from the team. Fredz has also been linked with a move to the Porsche LMP1 team. This team rivalry will be one to watch.

With contracts still up in the air, Sauber driver Doull has been recorded by a British tabloid newspaper. In a recent interview he was asked where a drive was likely to be this season "a drive for the Ferrari team.. However, I will fill a team" was his strong response. With the "nice one dickhead" episode still hanging over Toggs could Ferrari be changing driver line up?

Williams have been putting on a brave front on it's recent disasters. With Pedro taking time to "find himself" in an Eat pray love kind of way and not being able to commit to a full season, this fact along with team CEO Claire Williams found with Torro Rosso driver Millen (rumour of trying to secure a contract) in what can only be refereed to as a compromising situation, has left the team in disarray. The still recovering Rouge has been tasked with the herculean challenge of getting the teams focus back on track.

With reports flying of Cheesy Fingers getting an early chance at the new tyres and full on legend of the sports advice, along with reports of SOJ looking over the Lotus factory sat on a church gargoyle in a brooding bat suit and little word from the focused Torro Rosso outfit, This is only the beginning of what is sure to be a crazy few weeks.

By law:this post maybe untrue, could have been taken out of context and again is probably all untrue

Awesome. It's exciting already.

I think both GP1 and GP2 should use identical calendars and tracks.

Because: FNP.

FNP is a huge part of the whole atomic F1 thing. It keeps GP1 and 2 doing stuff together every week, it gets everyone talking about the same track, so we each read each others threads and generally follow each others tourney progress, it helps people share between leagues if they want, it lets newcomers gauge themselves (and be gauged) against the whole group, and - it means a fuller and funner field on Friday nights.

So, perhaps once the consensus is in for number of tracks (which I think is also at 20 in the poll Lambo did here), and you guys continue to do team talk and stuff here, then we start a new all-in thread to figure out dates and tracks?

Also think we should aim to have a solid first race date settled say by the end of this week cos that's what everyone wants to know. Personally I like Oct 13. Everyone's gonna get it day 1, we're itching to go, let's do it.

I agree with Ben on that one in regards to the calender. Having the same makes FNP valid for everyone and gets the two leagues together.

Everything will fall into place once we know what we are dealing with in F1 2013 which is I believe this Sat.

I unlock on the 4th, so anytime after that works for me.

On the whole same tracks every week thing, as a non-participant in FNP and yet participant in broader Atomic events, I (still) don't agree with the reasoning there. Is there really a strong constant participation in FNP from GP2 guys anyway? Is it really such a necessary thing? If everyone rolled up for FNP you would still require multiple sessions because of the player limit.

Personally, I find it frustrating when the majority of the GP2 group want a week off but we are obligated to miss a track to do so simply because the GP1 guys don't. If the calendars match up, that's great, but I don't agree with the notion that half the group are beholden to the schedule of the others with no say over it. Especially now that the website is no longer in its previous configuration.

Also personally, I always keep up with the GP1 season anyway as it's entertaining to do so. I think the website and accompanying forums (both here and the Atomic forum) function very well to keep both competitions informed and invested in what is going on in the other.

My $0.02 anyway. We can probably continue the discussion elsewhere so as not to derail the thread from the joys of silly season :)

I would be keen for some action this weekend as we will have the game. Before the season kicks off. Or sometime later this year

Maybe we could call it. "That 70s Atomic F1 TV Show" Race at Brands hatch using the 70's cars?

In other news Luca di Montezemolo got back to me about my wishes at driving the Ferrari this year..

Luca di Montezemolo Quote "**** Off, your a joke"
Doull Quote "Okay then"
Luca di Montezemolo Quote "We just don't have 4 years worth of front wings for you"

So with Luca di Montezemolo ruling out a drive for me at Ferrari. Sauber have approached me again and said "We know that last half of the season was rough for you with your two technical glitches." But the Drive is yours if you want it?

I will be looking at the Terms and Conditions later with Sauber. Before I sign on the dotted line

Rogue -

Yeah FNP pretty much always has GP2 guys in. Maybe you should have a look in, it's huge fun. Personally it's at least half the reason I stick around with Atomic F1. It almost never overflows to need a second session, always a good number to keep things interesting.

Re calendar - so we just agree on one universal calendar before the start and stick to it. Simple.

Flouncy -

I'd love to mate, but Friday morning before work is no good for me. Maybe when I'm back in Australia :D

Agree that would be a good outcome, don't necessarily agree that it will be simple to agree on what said calendar will look like. I will, however, live in hope.

Doull -

Hahaha, I like it, now if only there was someway to include Mila Kunis...

Firstly: Awesome new website gents! First time I've been here.

Secondly: It might be hard to do, but would it be an idea to keep the atomic forum going for more online presence in the public eye? I was pointed this way, not sure how the rest of you guys found the league. It might be an idea to try and keep a thread there refreshed and interesting for possible new comers wanting to find a league to join, especially with idea to expand into other sims racing games once they come out. my 2 cents there.

Third: I don't make the FNP myself either and there have been post of substituting the current tracks for classic ones (which i am all for), but i dare say will make it so much harder to choose what tracks to take out, Ploddy will have all our heads if we get rid of Monaco we know that much already. so with two near full comps going it's just going to be SO much harder to come to an agreement as to what tracks to keep and discard and put in. (EVEN HARDER if it was less than a 20 race season)

3.1. Because of this and other reasons i'll like a 20 race season, but breaks will be GREAT, have suggested this in GP2 Vent at the end of the season so i will put it up here: "Have all long weekends off" (Nat and State based ones) and figure out any other breaks we may or may not want in there as well. If both F1 and GP2 do a full 20 season, even with different breaks and different current sub with classic tracks, as long as the random race idea is not still floating around we should all still line up at the same track in most cases anyway, FNP shouldn't be affected too much (i think)

3.2 so 26 week season with 20 races. 6 weeks off. should cover most public holiday weekends, as well as the usual x-mas/New Years off. and we can fit in 2 seasons a years. sounds tight, but its no worse than what we have been doing to date.

i do have more to say on all that, but hard for me to go on forever here, time and not the right thread for it all, but wanted to have my key points out there to be discussed and not missed before the season starts.

Doull: nice work with a mate joining, I've been trying for a while myself, close but still no cigar.

Quote:
I'll post in that thread when I have an opinion on how many rounds I think I'll be able to do

To nobody, think we can all agree that we would like more than 2 or 3 races a season.

LAMBO/millen: looking at a name change too if that's ok?!?! from "zdievo" to "petevo"

Doull keep Sauber hanging, sounds like they need you more than you need them, Ferrari may just find the money for 4 years of front wings, they don't want to do a McLaren and have NO drivers after winning both titles. (historic GP2 Season 2 to Season 3)

Just let the silly season play out which is going to be thick and fast i think.

heya petevo - well put, that's an amazingly easy calendar to work with and probably suits why people want those weeks off anyway (go away for long weekend and don't get back in time for race, or too late and tired).

Because, believe me, putting together a calendar for one league is tricky enough, so for me at this early stage I like TOTALLY vote for Long Weekends Off and that's that.

LAMBO/millen: looking at a name change too if that's ok?!?! from "zdievo" to "petevo"

If this was the old site, that request would be a massive pain in the arse....

However it's a simple database change. Done.
