Round 1 of the GP2 season got off to a flyer when everyone had issues trying to join the session. This is what host Ploddy had to say; “ The game has the typical Codies bugs. They still haven’t improved the woeful lobby system [as] we had to restart the first session many many times to get everyone in due to dropped connections. Had to do the old trick of sending out a second invite in case you dropped.” The issue may be related to user Modzy; Modzy experienced some sort of disconnection issue, so the whole session had to be reset just so he could join in. Truly exhilarating stuff!
Millen who organised everything but didn’t race was on the discord chat keeping an eye on things. This prompted one user (JaseGP) to say ”he’s soft”, although the real reason is because Millen doesn’t have the game yet.
E.T. had to look for a neighbour’s dog that got hit, and tried to join at qualifying. He couldn’t so had to sit round 1 out. Tran couldn’t make the first race also because his league was running late but did join the 2nd race. Users JaseGP and pessimistprime did join in the action for the first round, despite not signing up on the forum.
Kobus and Modzy were having issues with their steering wheels early on. Kobus’ wheel wasn’t sensitive enough, while Modzy’s wheel was too sensitive! They eventually got it sorted out.
Race 1: Australia
The first race of the season went well, nothing major happened.
Ok so Green Machine retired before he even got to turn 3 because he “forgot that there was medium traction control NOT full traction control so he decided to plant the pedal to the metal, have a date with the wall, & retire" and Kobus retired 3 laps later on lap 4. The only drama was someone losing part of their front wing on the main straight on lap 12, prompting JaseGP to say “I thought it was a helmet”
JaseGP cruised to the win, ahead of the formidable Ploddy.
Race 2: Bahrain
Race 2 was almost the same as the first race. Modzy and Green Machine were removed from the formation lap and forced to sit in the “naughty corner” to “think about what [they] did”.
JaseGP got off to a flying start, and was immediately on to the back of Eradicator, relegating Tran to p4. Jase then overtook Erad down of the inside of turn 3 and stayed that way for the rest of the race, proving that the Manor is faster than a McLaren.
Eradicator also had a battle with Tran from lap 2 onwards; Tran overtook Erad using DRS down the main straight at the end of lap 2, before Erad returned the favor one lap later. Erad however lost the rear end exiting turn 2, handing the position back to Tran.
Erad did get pass, albeit when Tran pitted. This may have upset Tran’s rhythm as he went off at the tricky double left hander that is turns 9 and 10. This allowed Modzy and Kobus and Green Machine to pass him. Tran did of course pass them to regain his spot.
Green Machine was doing better than the first race, however made the same mistake as race 1 on lap 10, effectively ending his race.
Ploddy did get his own back on Jase, taking out the win to level the title race.
