"It's taken a while, but for the first time this season both Sauber boys are in the points! I somehow qualified 6th, I could have gone faster too but as it turns out Slizz had a time better than my PB so I was quite happy where I started.
Started off ok and technically had 4th place for all of maybe 2 seconds on the 1st lap but started to get taken by others as I wasn't prepared for the 50% fuel load I was carrying. Lifted to let my teamy by so he could get on with things after his poor start and by end of lap 1 was in 8th. Lap 2 in 9th, lap 3 in 10th. Back to 8th after Modz incident with Silicnt in front of me on lap 4. Modz soon recovered his position by the next lap.
After that I was looking to the end of 1st stint. Caught up to a seemingly struggling Flouncy and hustled him for a lap before pitting for primes. Came out of pits with Sili a few seconds behind me with fresh rubber on too and tried putting in a solid lap to try and undercut Flounce. Didn't quite work as he came out just in front of me after pitting. Had to lift to make sure I got the DRS from him but that only compromised my exit speed and so couldn't take him that lap.
Sitting in 11th, Intense pitted giving me back 10th place. Next lap Lambo and Oz did the same giving me 8th. Yamaha and Oz soon took me on fresh options. Placing me in 10th where I then sat for the last 1/3 of the race.
Pretty happy with it all things considered, no major offs or incidents just nice clean racing." - Eradicator - Sauber
"So, race last night was never going to be a great one for me. It's not a track I particularly like, and while I have won this race before I didn't feel like I had the pace to really challenge for points.
Qualified on Primes, and set an ok, lap. Could have gone a little quicker, but the idea was to just see where that takes you. It was clearly not the fastest strategy, seems most when for the traditional Option/Prime. Clean start, nothing really to report on that front. Watched the two Red Bull's race each other for a few laps, but just settled into a groove. Pitted on lap 16 for the options. Lost a little time with a small incident with Slizzer that cost me a position, but really I just didn't have the pace. Had a great duel with Intense in the closing stages which was fun. His Merc had great acceleration, and I just couldn't get him in the DRS zone. When I did manage to pass he took it back immediately when he had DRS. Overall it was an enjoyable race, with a result that wasn't completely unexpected." - Atomic Lambo - McLaren
"This week end was all about damage limitation for me. I knew even getting a low 1:30 for me was going to need a perfect lap on options, so i just focused on my race pace and consistency. I had some help with flukey with track/car setup related techniques for single lap pace. But i had a mountain to climb in term of what the team needed, and what i thought i was capable of doing. I was atleast a second off my team mates pace in the dry. But strangely very quick in the wet, which i think has been a very consistence thing for me lately, i just wish i could use in a race. But race just went my way this week. I made places from having some better pace early on, but mostly from you guys having battles and losing out. Then in my 2nd stint i just homed in on daz and made a calculated overtake on the final lap. Which didn't seem likely if it wasn't for him dropping back after a mistake ahead.
This race was one of my all time best for me,. I went into it with wheel technical issues, lacking confidence in my pace and ability around this track. I was 100% convinced i was going to have a bad race start to finish unless it rained. That was my only glimmer of hope for a positive outcome. Ending up 13th on the grid was slightly planned at the last minute. I had prime pace for a high 1.31 atleast, but after seeing how far down even that was going to put me. Sitting in 10th after my first flying lap i was going round on a cool down lap waiting to either be dropped to 11th or have some sign that i needed another faster lap. I wanted to go a new set of primes since i was starting on them anyway. But i knew my previous time was set on tires that where orange by the time i changed them. So i wanted to either go again, or drop to 11th and start on a new set of primes. Which thankfully Intense made happen, then i dropped to 13th haha." - Modz - Ferrari
"Not a bad race at all. One of my stronger tracks behind Catalunya but I was still surprised a few of the others weren't able to challenge me today. Really happy with my qualifying lap, it was my PB ever and bettered my season 6 time. Lost a place into turn 1 and from there I was able to keep up with the top 3 as they battled. They slowed too much and Preyst was able to catch up as I had some interchanging with Flukey after he made a mistake. Eventually Flukey made another mistake allowing me to close on Daz on lap 10 and I got too engaged in the battle that I forgot to pit! I ended up coming in the next lap same time as Daz but the Mercedes pit crew were tops and got me out before him.
From there I just had to keep it clean and keep position but I made a mistake allowing Preyst to fly past with DRS. It was then I saw he was on options which was a massive surprise to me. Well done to Preyst on such quick race pace on the primes in the early stint! From then on I had to keep Flukey behind until the end of the race but again cracked under pressure on the 2nd last lap. Then on my attack back I locked up into the 2nd last turn ruling out any chances of me taking the position back on the final lap. Massive disappointment for Mercedes that I was so close to getting their first podium for season 7 but cracked at the last minute. At least it was a fun track where you could open up, good times." - ToF - Mercedes
