4 races in and 4 different winners. You couldn't write a scrip that was closer than this, and trying to pick a favourite at the moment is proving to be very difficult. Istanbul provides a real drivers challenge with the changes in elevation with wide sweeping corners, tight hairpins and the famous R130 corner its not surprising its a favourite amongst drivers.
Mercedes and McLaren looked to have the early pace in FNP with both teams setting blistering sub 1:23 times. This momentum would be taken into qualifying as Atomic F1 debutante f15active would put his Mercedes on pole by Just two tenths ahead of Malaysian GP winner Loose in the Red Bull. steve088 but in a fine performance for Force India just 4 tenths off the top time. The race would prove to be entertaining with the mid field battling hard as the front runners pulled out a comfortable gap.
Reliability issues would strike both Red Bulls as they retired with connectivity problems. The Williams of Ghost made a great drive through the field to take his first podium of the year with 3rd finishing just 5 seconds behind 2nd place ToF9 who had a great race to secure his first podium.
However the race belonged to f15active, who was stunning in qualifying and race. Unmatched for speed and consistency he finished a comfortable 16 seconds in front of the McLaren. As the season moves onto Spain all the odds are thrown out the window. Could we see a new winner in Spain?
f15activ: 1st
A proud day for Mercedes as they took their first win as a constructor in dominating fashion. Was unstoppable in qualifying and couldn't be touched in the race. There's a new kid on the block and everyone should be wary.
ToF: 2nd
After his fine performance for 5th in China, 2nd was a great result for the McLaren driver. Pushed f15activ to the end with good pace and strategy. The result pushes him up to 8th only a few points behind the Williams. Consistency will be the key and a good result in Spain could see a new title contender.
Ghost: 3rd
A welcome return to form for the Williams driver. Capitalised on the issues of the red bull and was within 5 seconds of the McLaren at the end. We haven't seen Ghost on the podium since the Singapore Grand Prix in season 4. Looks much more comfortable this season and a strong result looks just around the corner.
Flouncy: 4th
Saubers Flouncy now finds himself in the position of leading the championship despite not winning a race yet. Has shown strong consistency to find himself in this position, however will need to challenge for wins to really stamp himself as a title contender. Spain will be an important race, and he could be on the cards for a win.
ET ROM au: 5th
A strong performance by ET. Qualified just behind his team mate, but lost out in the mid field battle in the first laps dropping him further back. Fought back well to pass both Renaults in the final stint. Now just 5 points adrift a good result in Spain will see him close the gap.
Modz85: 6th
A solid race from the Renault driver. Was pacey and beat his team mate Lambo for the first time this season. Wasn't able to hold off the fast finishing Sauber of ET but 6th is a good result to build on.
Atomic Lambo: 7th
Didn't really have the pace to ever challenge the front and kept to himself for much of the race. Battled hard with steve088 during the second stint, and brought the car home. Solid points for Renault but will want much more in Spain.
Oz1098S: 8th
Wasn't able to qualify after connection issues caused a disconnection. Showed good race pace tho and was the fastest of the drivers in the 1:26's. While still in the points, the result wasn't a measure of his skill and will want to make another step in Spain.
Eradicatr84: 9th
Showed solid race pace and was in the 1:25's which was quicker than his teammate. However a collision with NIGHTKID2 destroyed his race, dropping him well back to a position he was never really able to improve on. Disappointment for the Williams driver, but Spain should be a happier hunting ground.
steve088: 10th
Could have finished much higher, had very good race pace well into the 1:25's, however contact with a bollard in turn nine resulted in a drive through penalty effectively dropping him out of a higher points finish. Battled with Lambo in the early stints and probably had the pace to finish 6th or better. Will wonder what could have been.
